Catacoustic Consort awards grants to musicians in the Greater Cincinnati area for the purpose of supporting and fostering Renaissance and Baroque music.

If you are a player of early keyboard instruments, early plucked instruments, early wind instruments, early bowed instruments, or a singer, you can receive financial help for participation in workshops and other educational opportunities that further your musical training, performing skills, and knowledge of period musical performance; or for instrument purchases or repair.

Application is open to residents of Greater Cincinnati (Butler, Clermont, Hamilton and Warren counties in Ohio; Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties in Kentucky; and Dearborn County in Indiana) who can demonstrate a need for support. There is no age requirement, although preference may be shown to pre-professional applicants under the age of 40.

Past awards have ranged up to $1000.

Catacoustic Consort confers awards for players of early keyboard instruments, early plucked instruments, early wind instruments, early bowed instruments, and singers. Recipients of grant awards may use the grant for capital purchases for participation in workshops and other educational opportunities that further their musical training, performing skills and knowledge of period musical performance.

The Application Process

Applicants should download application forms (“Required Materials” below).

The completed form and accompanying materials should be emailed as pdfs to the following address: info@catacoustic.com with the words “Grant Application” in the subject header.

Eligible Applicants

Application is open to residents of Greater Cincinnati (Butler, Clermont, Hamilton and Warren counties in Ohio; Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties in Kentucky; and Dearborn County in Indiana) who can demonstrate a need for support. There is no age requirement, although preference may be shown to pre-professional applicants under the age of 40. Previous scholarship recipients are ineligible for awards for the subsequent three years.

Required Materials

  2. A concise written narrative (500 words, download HERE) in which you describe your musical background, your specific experience with Renaissance or Baroque music, and two specific musical goals or outcomes that the grant support from Catacoustic will help you achieve.
  3. Grant Award Budget (download HERE)
  4. A letter of support or recommendation from an individual (i.e. instructor or music professional) who can attest to your interest and experience in Renaissance or Baroque music, as well as articulate how the grant award will contribute to achieving the goal articulated in your application essay.

Application Deadline:

Completed application materials should be submitted by April 1st of this year.

Adjudication:

Applications are reviewed by an anonymous panel and award announcements are made mid-May. All decisions are final.

Grant Award Conditions

Grant Award winners agree to provide follow-up documentation within six months of receiving the award, in the form of a final budget report and a concise written narrative of 300-500 words, describing the ways in which the award has enriched the winner’s musical activity. Catacoustic reserves the right to use this narrative in future promotional materials. Note that failure to comply with the follow-up requirements may result in the award being rescinded.
